Wandering American roads (pt3) – There is a farm next to a river…

Posted on June 14, 2022December 28, 2022

It is a large farm located on a hill, on the banks of the poetic Po-to-mac river. This is also the residence of George Washington, the first president of the United States. In winter, when the snow is white here, the whole farm becomes a vast snow field.

Mountain Vathon, where Washington’s farm is located, is located near D’Alexandro, Virginia. Early in the morning, we started driving here. The road to D’Alexandro is very beautiful. For the first time I knew how American “country” was. Not much different from what I was glimpsed in the movie. On both sides of the road are large areas of land covered with snow, scorched with houses, shops or factories. When the car arrived at D’Alexandro, the road was small, on both sides were small blocks of houses close together, looking very pretty. D’Alexandro small, peaceful, ancient. From here, we started going to the Mountain Vathon. My first impression was a small park right in front of the gate at the Mountain Vathon. It is cold outside. I had to jump up and down to warm up.

After buying tickets, we entered the main hall of this national monument. Welcome us old people. They are very friendly and enthusiastic. They gave instructions, explanations, and details about the place. As far as I know, they are retired people, working here partly because of their joy and pride. They work very hard and very well. There is also a statue of the Washington family in the main hall. Of course, we didn’t forget to take pictures again.

In the cozy lobby, we started out to visit the farm. This place is very large. If all goes, it will take all day. It’s cold, I’m afraid my mother won’t be able to go long, so I just choose to visit Washington’s main residence.

The entrance to the farm is clean and tiled. On both sides of the bank is a wooden fence. Snow covered both sides of the path. Curved roads lead us to Washington’s main neighborhood. Here we see more clearly the scenery of the farm with trees, vast fields covered with snow, wooden crates placed on the side of the road or ancient lampposts.

I enjoy the big snow. I leaned back on the snow to take pictures like a child. I also wanted to run in the snowy fields out there to play with my friends. Unfortunately, this time with family, not friends. But the immense white snow makes me excited. I continued to go deeper into the main building. An ancient building and very well preserved. This villa-style house was built in 1757.

And it is interesting to observe objects, furniture, books, beds, bathrooms, etc. from more than 2 centuries ago and at that time, I envisioned the scene 2 centuries ago people were born how to live Everything seems very lively. Unfortunately, people are forbidden to take photos inside the house, so they cannot be saved. But the scenes in the kitchen and the hut for waiters were taken.

We continue to roam the area around the mansion. I am happy to travel on the vast snow. Behind the mansion is the Po-to-mac line and bare trees in the winter. Truly charming landscape. If my sister is here, then perhaps many novels were born from that scene. A farm scene of the countryside but also very luxurious and noble. I must say this relic is well preserved. Everything looks perfect.

Once around the museum, visitors can also visit the souvenirs at the Mountain Vathon. I personally like the space outside this souvenir shop. On summer days, it will be beautiful with outdoor tables and chairs, and the trees form a small park with colorful flowers. The day I went to the Mountain Vathon, the bright sunshine in the middle of the winter began to make the snow melted and shined under the golden sun.

Leaving the Mountain Vathon, please don’t get attached (again). If I have a longer time to go for a walk in the snow field or sit and watch the Po-to-mac line longer.
