It was the longest distance I went through: halfway around the Earth. Coming to America is the dream of many people, including me and this country that surprised me.
I made a trip to the US with my mother at the end of January, the end of winter, when the last snowfall fell here. The procedure for the trip is also quite easy but the flight seems long, more than a day from Ho Chi Minh City, transit in Tokyo and then to the US in Atlanta. From here, the mother and son flew to the end of Washington DC.
I was excited, but my mother was nervous and nervous. This is not the first time my mother has traveled abroad but it is the first time she has gone so far and to a country that is strange to her. In the past, my mom went all the way to the group so I didn’t have to worry. This time it is self-sufficient, so my mother is busy, especially when being “impressed” with going to the US very difficult because of strict procedures. At the time of the visa, my mother could lighten a little. I have to advise her to be okay.
She did not forget to prepare some Vietnamese specialties to bring to relatives. In general, it is only possible to bring some dry things such as rice paper, dried bamboo shoots, this vermicelli, but bring fresh items … please don’t get through their customs gate. Packed with furniture thoroughly, more than 3 am, the mother and daughter were at Tan Son Nhat airport to wait for the flight at 5:55 am to Tokyo. My mother wanted to go to the airport early in case something was wrong. I am also supportive because I am also careful, or worried (both mother and daughter, very similar).
After completing the procedure, we receive the boarding pass. Each mother of 3 cards boarded the ship corresponding to 3 flight routes is TP. HCM – Tokyo – Atlanta – Washington DC. This promises to be a tired flight here. I have never been so long. My mother is still in the mood. Tan Son Nhat International Airport early in the morning does not have anything to eat or drink. The shops must be open until 6 am. At that time, my mother and I flew for 5 minutes. Service is boring.
Get on the plane, my mother and I and some other passengers have a good night’s sleep. We got up so early that we were so sleepy now. But flying long, so lack of sleep time. At the time of check-in, my mother had a Titan card from VNA, so she sat in the front row. The officer reassured her: “I am assured, the flight is very empty.” Indeed, the flight did not have many customers, seated in rows. Even, each person can lie down on a row of 3 comfortable sleeping chairs, no different from Business Class! Sometimes I woke up because of the sunlight. The sun has already grown out. And I’m on my way to the Japanese sunrise country.
At meal time, the waitress gave us the menu. There is also a Japanese waitress for VNA, very pretty. There are 2 options for Asian and European dishes. I chose Asian dishes, my mother chose European dishes. Fruit food is better than the short ones I flew before. After eating, I took personal hygiene … and continued to sleep. Honestly on airplanes, only sleep is the best because the flight takes 5, 6 hours.
Finally, the plane lowered its altitude in preparation for landing at Narita Airport. The temperature is very cold outside, about 2 degrees or so according to the attendant’s announcement. I could see some small ice floats floating in the sea when the plane dropped. Dry fields of winter, lovely houses, straight-line roads appear below. Japan is here. I was eagerly waiting for the plane to land.
The weather in Narita is very beautiful. The sun is extremely hot even though it is very cold outside. Two mothers pulled out sweaters and scarves to prepare for body protection. Japanese airport looks modern and clean. Japanese friends are friendly, civilized, and attitude is polite and affectionate, and looks extremely clean, and instructs them to do transit procedures.
My mom and I didn’t eat anything. I bought some small mochi and drinks to make my mother eat temporarily. Anyway, board the plane and eat. Now go eat e not in time (that’s my mother worried). But actually there is not much time in transit. About 1 and a half hours.
Delta Airlines’ large aircraft is very crowded. It can be said to be closed. The attendants of DA are not young but they are very enthusiastic and funny. The Asian stewardess even teased me when I saw it on my shirt, I still stuck the decals in the pink plane. Long, long flight, 12 hours. I only eat, sleep, drag my iPad to watch movies or read “Norwegian Wood”. On the dark plane, only the lights on the top and bottom made me concentrate more when reading the story. “Norwegian Wood” is a fascinating world, full of enthusiasm, generosity and passion. I like that world, freedom and daydreaming. Transit in Japan is a bit but I promise I will return to Japan to travel. I’m obsessed with “Norwegian Wood”.
